Well so far so good on my quest to post a blog every day this month. Thus far today at least one faithful reader has told me in person they were a little disappointed in yesterday’s offering; (an excerpt from my journal.) OK I admit it was kind of a cop out, but in my defense I never really write journal entries with the intention of other people reading them. PLUS, I did have to work at 3 this morning, and I still took time out to post something. And don’t be surprised if I do it again. 30 blog posts in 30 days is a lot to expect from someone as frequently unmotivated as I am. (Wait…I just realized there’s 31 days in August. Fuuuuuuuuck….) Sometimes 1 blog post in 3 months is too much to ask. (I feel like I was a little more productive before this “Internet” thing came along. I mean sometimes I just want to sit in front of my computer and watch every episode of Miami Vice. Who’s got time for blogging when you can watch every television show ever made, whenever you want?)
So last night I managed to lay in bed from 10 pm until about 1:30 am, and during that three and a half hours I think I slept maybe 2 hours, in half hour increments. That’s my usual style of sleeping unless I’m really sick or heavily medicated. I don’t think there’s really anything wrong with me. I just get bored when I’m sleeping. I feel like there will be plenty of time for sleeping when I’m dead. (I’ve probably used that line somewhere in here before. It’s one of my favorites.)
I’ll be honest, work kind of sucked today, and it usually doesn’t. There was way too much stuff to do and way too little time to do it in, and nothing I could do about that. I got done what I could and got out of there only a few minutes after my scheduled time to do so. (One of the benefits of going to work at 3 am is getting to leave at 11 am. Also I don’t have to wear company attire and can listen to my own tunes for more than half of my shift.)
The lack of sleep had caught up with me by around 8, and the burger and fries I ate for “lunch” from the greasy spoon diner near the store didn’t help to boost my alertness. I plunged through the rest of my day thinking I would certainly take a nap as soon as my liberty was secured, and yet the very instant I clocked out a wave of new-found energy and excitement rushed over me. (That’s what happens every time.)
First I went home and made an appointment for Vader to be taken to the vet. (She’s my cat.) Unfortunately the earliest they can see her is in about a week and a half. Or maybe it’s not so unfortunate. I’ll have received another paycheck by then, which means the rest of this paycheck can now be freely spent on stupid shit. (And food and booze and stuff. You know, essentials.)
Then I decided to see how long it would take me to walk to the new Plum Market, which will soon be my new workplace. It is being constructed on the opposite side of town from me. The main reason I want to do this is to force myself to hike to and from said workplace, in hopes of losing one or two hundred pounds. (I know from past experience this plan will work.) Turns out it takes me 1 hour and 25 minutes to get there on foot.
On the way there I listened to these two CDs which I bought two weeks ago, but had not yet listened to in their entirety. They couldn’t be more different from each other. Motorhead has hundreds of songs (maybe thousands) and they all sound pretty much like the same song, but I fucking LOVE that song. Plus…Lemmy Killmeister. (Lemmy…Killmeister) The other disk is like a cross between the music that played in the background during sketches on Sesame Street in the 70’s, and the music that may have played in the background in Spanish porn movies in the 70’s. The more I listen to it, the more I love it. It’s extraordinarily fun, though I can’t understand a word of the few songs that actually have lyrics. (It’s all in Spanish. My name may be Spanish, but I am not.)
As soon as I got to the construction site that will soon be my new workplace I promptly turned around and started walking back. My stroll home was much more meandering and leisurely. First I wandered into Kroger where I bought a new notebook for journaling, as I have nearly completed my current one, and two brand new BIC 4 color pens, as they were on sale. (Those fuckers can be expensive sometimes, and I won’t use anything else.) Afterwards I stopped for an early dinner at a place called Great Plains Burger Co. The burger really wasn’t particularly amazing, especially for ten bucks, but the fries were pretty good.
In case you’re wondering, I do NOT eat a cheeseburger and fries for every meal. Sometimes I have pizza. Or spaghetti. Or Sweet and Sour Chicken. In fact I very rarely eat a cheeseburger and fries twice in one day, but this new burger joint I’d never been to was there, and I was there, and well…you know.
I made my way through downtown, stopping at a couple used music places, adding a few more trinkets to my ever increasingly ridiculous CD collection (there will be a blog just about that soon, don’t you worry.) and eventually made it home. I was sweaty, hot, stinky and gross by the time I got here. I took a shower and almost immediately got shampoo in my eyes. (If you are one of my Facebook friends you may already know about this.)

The Iron Maiden and Sepultra CDs may very well never get listened to, but will be filed alphabetically into my collection and promptly forgotten about. (So maybe I am kind of a hoarder.) The Jackson Five CD is getting uploaded IMMEDIATELY. (Blee Dat.) Pantera and Anti-Flag are kind of hit or miss.
Now I’m home and drinking spiced rum and coke. I normally like it with ginger ale, but I don’t have any left. I noticed when I went into the kitchen to get ice for my drink it seemed warmer in there than normal. I quickly surmised it was because the oven was on. If, by chance, it was me that left it on, (and it probably was) it has been for about three days.
By the way did you notice the part of my story where I took a nap? That’s right you didn’t.
If I lived closer, and didn’t like the previous blog, I would tell you too your face! However, not only do I live very far away, but I also loved the blog! I look forward to each day’s new one! Good luck with Vader, and maybe you require some Pete Douglass hang out time!
Yeah I wish you guys hadn’t moved so far away! There’s really only one or two people I hang out with anymore on a regular basis. (Unless you consider cats people.) Speaking of which, Vader is fine. It’s just routine vet stuff she needs. Nothing serious. And nothing that can’t wait until the 14th, luckily. 🙂
I know the feeling. The only ones out here that I hang out with are Amanda and Friday. Other than that I basically remain reclusive in the apartment. It was fun meeting those two bums the other night, and hanging out on the bus stop bench for about 5 hours though! Ha ha! Glad to hear Vader is good!
[ Laughs ] I see that you have been working very hard at publishing a post every single day for the month of August.
So far so good!
