Wednesday Is Lasagna Day, The Best Day of the Week!*

13 Aug

*With apologies to The Aquabats, none of whom are likely to ever have even the slightest idea that this blog exists.

For the past 6 and a half years I’ve been working with this awesome girl named Shannon, and today was her birthday.  For at least 4 of those years I’ve been using her date of birth as an excuse to show up to work, bright and early (we’re the morning shift) with a gigantic pan of lasagna, and a bunch of freshly baked garlic bread.  Birthday Mutha Fuckin Lasagna!  (Yeah I know I swear too much.  I blame Samuel L. Jackson.)

As you might have put together from some of my earlier posts, if you’ve been reading, I’m not a big fan of vegetable matter or fungus or any of that kind of stuff.  (Things I generally refer to as “weirdness.”)  So there’s never any of that in my so called lasagna, which consists entirely of three things:  Hamburger, Cheese, and Sauce.  (And lots of all three, especially the cheese.)

Some of this fabulous meal is eaten immediately upon arrival (which is long before the sun comes up and makes for a better breakfast than you might think) and I spend the rest of the day trying to pawn my creation off on other co workers, and not having to poop.  (For at least three days.)  I spend a bunch of money on the lasagna, but I’m saving on toilet paper!  It all evens out.

Too much information?  You’re welcome!

ArchieBunker4

I thought this was the perfect place to throw in a picture of a disturbed looking Archie Bunker, (the first person to ever flush a toilet on a prime time sit com.)

Now I know what you’re all thinking:  “Awwwww, what a sweet guy to do that for his friend!

Nope.  The truth is I just really like lasagna, and even more important I thoroughly enjoy making it, (It’s like putting together a big puzzle.  A Big. Delicious. Puzzle.) and I need a valid excuse to do so, because the only lasagna pan I have is enormous, and as much as I love lasagna, I actually get sick of eating it after about two days of nothing else, so if I’m gonna make it, I have to share it with as many people as possible.

Get a smaller lasagna pan you say?

Verily I say Nay.

(And there you have it.  My first attempt at poetry.  Right there.  You saw it here first. Better start calling me Bill Mother Fucking Shakespeare.)

Also I always have this crazy idea that maybe some of my co-workers will return the favor once in awhile, and buy me lunch, or at least a soda for fuck’s sake…

But I kid.  I kid.

And noooooooow……the rest…of the story:

It is in fact Wednesday night, although at the moment when I post this blog, it will appear to be Thursday.  That’s because, in case you didn’t catch it when I mentioned this several thousand blogs ago, my WordPress is set up in the wrong time zone, which actually gives me a 4 hour advantage in my “August Blog A Day Challenge.”  (insert maniacal laughter.)  As long as I continue this trend of posting my nightly blog at or around 8:00 pm I actually have a 52 hour window (if I decide to reset my WordPress to the correct time zone for some odd reason) before I have actually officially failed in my endeavor.  (That’s a pretty big window, but never underestimate my ability to fall flat on my face.  I’m not even halfway there yet.)

The other thing I love about Wednesday is it’s….. DRINKING NIGHT!  (But of course, every day has the potential of being a drinking night, if I really want it to.  After all, I make my own rules, just like THIS GUY:

Gong-Show-1977-Fleer-Cards

Who the hell knew there was a set of “70’s Era Game Show Trading Cards”? (Oh Internet, you never let me down.)

PS:  If you were expecting a picture of James Dean to be added there I think you’re reading the wrong blog.

Couldnt you just freeze individual portions of the leftovers and microwave them later?

I could, but by then I’d be ready to make a whole new lasagna again! (As much as I love lasagna, I think I actually like making it more than eating it.)

I wish it was lasagna day at MY work!
